O2 sensor bad?
I posted an exhaust a few days back with regards to my VTEC engaging twice as loud as usual. And also feels like I lost my power up top. Before this problem my car would hit VTEC and gradually get louder. Now, it just pops in vtec like someone kicked the hell out of my car.
I went to a local exhaust shop and they told me that I have a slit or gash around the O2 sensor. I am assuming this is the rubber washer, but I am not sure. He told me that this could be the problem. He also told me that my muffler's "baffle" has gotten loose causing a slight ringing sound when I rev the car.
I don't know what else to do as they also checked my header for any cracks that checked out ok.
And another thing is that I know if my O2 sensor has gone bad the "check engine light" would come on correct?
ANybody with any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

That mechanic is an idiot, if an o2 sensor is bad it will set a code, If your check engine light isn't on it is more than likely a mechanical problem. Do you have a catback exhaust?
Yes I have a APEXI WS with carsound high flow cat and a DC header w/2.5" collector.
Could it be a bad cat?
It's just annoying because I have no power up top.

It could be the catalyst is clogged but that would throw an o2 as well, so I doubt it. As far as your power band do you have a stock ECU and when was the last time you did a simple tune up. Also are your wires stock, is your fuel setup stock, what about your fuel filter when didi you replace it last?
My fuel system is stock except for my FPR which I had dyno tuned with my basic bolt ons. Honestly I never should have bought that thing.
Havent changed my fuel filter since I bought the car in 2002.
Wires stock, ECU stock
my spark plugs are the only thing ive changed since I bought the car besides the typical maintainence such as oil, intake, etc.
I believe that is it. It might be a clogged cat cause I heard a rattling noise a couple days ago and then it randomly disappeared. this is when my VTEC started acting up.

Here is the sequence I would go with (always start out with the small stuff)
- Replace your fuel filter.
- Check your gap on your spark plugs.
- Drop your exhaust where the header meets and take a look in there, check for any metal pieces or if the primary screen on the catalyst is blown out.
- Also check the screen on your v-tec solenoid.
- When was the last valve adjustment done?
- Are you running lean or rich?

Thanks man
I'll keep you posted once once I figure out the problem.
One more question: Have you had any experience with any performance fuel filters? and are they worth the time?
