well, according to the flow chart, you have 2 options: either buy the oil pressure gauge (which is the only tool you're missing to run the diagnosis), or replace the ECU. I'm pretty sure it will be cheaper to buy an oil pressure gauge. I bet it would even be cheaper than having a shop diagnose it for you...

$20 - $100

Any auto parts store should have one (auto zone, kragen, pepe boys, etc.)

Just get a cheap one, or better yet, see if they will rent you one...

just follow the troubleshooting steps. They are laid out in such a way that it starts with the smallest problem first, and then gets bigger. That's why the ECU is listed last in the troubleshooting procedure.

It is always cheaper and better to diagnose and fix it yourself.

Check the voltage across the battery terminals with the meter on the same setting to make sure you're getting a reading. You should see around 12v. If you do, the meter is set correctly. If you get no voltage between the switch power wire and the battery ground, then test the switch ground wire. Turn the meter dial to ohms- the symbol looks a little like a Q, you can find it on google. The meter will likely have a 1 shown. Connect the red probe from the meter to the ground wire on the harness side of the switch connector and the black probe to the neg battery terminal. If it changes to zero then the ground wire is good and only the power wire is broken. If it doesn't change, both wires are disconnected. If the 1 changes to any other number post it here. Follow any broken wires and look for the break. You can use the meter on the ohms setting to see if a wire has a break between the two points you connect the probes to. As I said, if the one changes to a zero then there's a good connection, no change is no connection and anything in between is a partial connection.

Where did you put the multimeter leads? What setting was it on? Are you following the diagnostic procedure I posted for you? Just follow the flow chart, it lays it out for you step by step. It's pretty much a no-brainer. Just follow the procedure.

You're welcome. Basically you only need to use 2 settings. One is for volts, and the other is for ohms. Use ohms where the service manual say to "check for continuity." Use volts where it says "check for voltage."

Remember, never use ohms on a powered circuit.

If the power wire has no power and the ground shows no continuity then first check for an unhooked connector since it's unlikely both wires broke at the same time. If the ground is good, then follow the power wire and check for resistance (ohms) until you find a section of the wire where the 1 on the meter doesnt change (meaning a broken connection). In either scenario, follow the wires and check for resistance on both sides of any connectors to see if they are good. Usually the meter probes have a sharp point that you can stick right into the sheath of the wire when testing so you wont have to strip the wire. Cover all holes made like this with electrical tape.

VTEC is a very dependant system. What I mean by that is if the ECU detects anything malfunctioning, it will prevent VTEC from engaging, so if you have a CEL, you will have to clear that before the ECU will allow VTEC to engage. If you have no CEL, follow the diagnostic procedure I posted above.
