vtec not broomming
Has anyone even MENTIONED the fact that there's a VTEC oil pressure sensor located next to the solenoid? The service manual states, several other conditions permitting, that if the VTEC oil pressure sensor doesn't see ~7psi of pressure, it will not engage VTEC. This will through a Check Engine Light. Guess what ELSE throughs a CEL at or below ~7psi... that's right the OPS! If it were pressure related you'd get a CEL and NO VTEC... Hmmm... sorry if someone else already mentioned this before... HTH
On a different note, my CRVTEC did that the last time I took apart the head, and come to find out, it wasn't lubed/reassembled correctly, and caused some of the lifters to stick for a while. It went away though...*shrug*

alright well thanx for all the info. i never rev the engine over 3500 rpm until its warmed up so i know its not that. i did notice im right at the bottom mark on my dip stick. if my vtec pressure switch were bad where is it and how do i test it. i know the solonoid is ok i already tested it. could it maybe be im not gettin enough pressure from my oil pump?? my rockers are clapping a little at idle so maybe im just not gettin enough oil pressure sometimes. its weird though because sometimes its sounds and feel awsome but sometimes it makes the sound like it is engaging but it doesnt pull harder?
any more ideas??

first off...this happend to me. Buy an oil pressure guage and see where your pressure is. If you have a built motor you should have one anyways. If your oil pressure is fine then check the Vtec solonoid. Take it off and check the little screen, sometimes it gets clog with crap. If that doesn't work then u might need a whole new solonoid. My solonoid was bad, and my freind just gave me his, then everything was back to the "brooooooom"
Wait ....is the check engine light coming on???? should be a code 22 if it has anything to do with the vtec pressure switch. let me know...

i already have testes the solonoid, and it is fine. i was running a kenji chipped p28 so i tried putting my pr3 back in. vtec works great now but my ecu is throughing a code 23 which is the knock sensor. i dont know if im knocking or if the sensor is bad or maybe not even hooked up. i dont know. in anycase that maybe what the prob is becuase knock sensor controls timing so maybe it was just retarding my timing making vtec feel weak sause but i dont know..........
Some people can be clueless about VTEC. It is neither heard nor felt. If you feel the VTEC coming in then your VTEC point needs to be optimized. Because there is a serious dip in power just before VTEC. A little change in the engine sound may happen when VTEC kicks in but not to the point of being very obvious. Two of our cars have this characteristic.
it all comes down to oil temperature. did u allow for your car to properly warm up? vtec engines require the engine to be at a certain temperature before it can be fully functional. if cold, then the "lifting" phase of vtec can be very uneventful.
i wouldnt be too alarmed by it....its actually a very nifty feature that honda derived to protect its engines!
