Default VTEC kicks in...but no power

i have a B18C5 engine in a civic..when i go past 5000rpm,,,i can hear the VTEC kick's in but i cant feel any power at all..
i check all the oil..it was fine and computer works ok..no ligth comes on on the dash..
so what is the problem??

then it could be a physical problem with the rocker arms
i say the easiest thing to do would be take it to get dynoed.
that will tell you if its working or not.

you know what man, I think we had the same problem. i had this kind of problem before, check your timing, its should be set at 12 degrees. my car before was way off and I couldn't feel any power until I had it set on the right timing. I hope this helps.

i had that problem with my b16a & ctr cams. The deal is that Vtec has to be up around 5700 to properly cross over. you lose power if vtec kicks in at 5k because of the cams. If you put old b16a cams in youd be fine hitting vtec at 5k.

What ECM? What year/model civic? Did you put a timing belt on the engine?

it is a JDM DC2 motor...with a 96 tranny and a DC1 ECM..
last nite i test drove it ...i can barely bit a stock prelude..

If the air filter is jammed up, it will have no power in vtec.
