VTEC issues
I've searced and tested all that I could, but still no cam lobe switch. Car (00 si turbo) runs great all the way to 8000rpm, but I don't feel the crossover and when the solenoid is unplugged the car pulls the exact same. My vafc is set to send the signal. It sends the 12v required. I removed the solenoid and cleaned it out....with 12v applied it clicks. I don't have an oil pressure gauge, but the vafc is sending the signal and the vti (signal in from ecu) is triggering so the car's ecu is sending the signal also (I don't believe it would do that if something was amiss). What else can I do here?????? Please help...if the car runs this good now, I'd love to see how vtec would improve the performance!! I'm currently using synthetic 5w-30...maybe a thicker viscosity would help.?
Do you have a stock head or is has it had work done to it?? I had this very same problem the other day.. A friend of mine bought a Portflow head from one of my other friend's that was selling it.. This was about a week ago when we put it on my friend's LSVTEC motor because the VTEC head that was already on it was thought to have a bent valve... It turned out to be a flattened cam which also had destroyed the rockers so he was in need of a new head... Well we put the new head on with SK2 stage 2 cams and the car felt really laggy... Since he had a dyno they slapped it on the dyno where it made 124whp... I guess we could see why it felt so bad... He also had no VTEC x-over... After going through all the tests... Different ECU, Applying voltage directly, checking the pressure on both the oil feed, and the VTEC jet... Everything checked out good so we still could not figure out why it wasn't kicking... My friend that sold the head to this guy pulled the motor apart with me 2 days later and in the process of that we figured out that Tom from Portflow had not installed the 2 of the VTEC rocker pistons for the #1 cylinder.... This caused all the oil to flow out the primaries when VTEC was engaged and with that loss of pressure the rockers could not be locked... This was just our problem after all those different things.. Anyways after we installed new VTEC rockers the car seems to run just fine... First time out it popped VTEC right away and i'm not sure if he's dynoed it again... I'm not sure what the problem is on your car for sure but if you have a stock head then i'm sure everything is fine.... I would still recommend Portflow anyday
... I love Tom's work, something just must have happened on that head and maybe he forgot.. hehe But yea... Good Luck
