Default Vtec engaging, not any faster

I have a crx hf with Ls/vtec that I built with about 1500 miles on it. Pr3 pistons, pr3 head, type r intake cam, type r intake manifold, gsr throttle body, pr3 ecu. At around 5500 rpms you can hear a change over, like the big cam lobes coming on but absolutly no additional power. I have checked everything that I can think of now. Wiring, oil level, oil pressure, no cel, speed sensor is working. I have tried another distributor, increasing fuel pressure, tune up. Nothing seems to change it. Any help is appreciated.

If you can, put it on a dyno and do some runs. Also if you can, see if you can get your A/F ratio as well. It may give you some insight to diagnosing your problem.

check the oil level in engine.my boy had same problem with his accord wagon.you hear it kick on but didn't pull.we stopped at a gas station and checked oil.all it needed was one quart.sounds stupid ,but alot of people forget vtec works on oil pressure.also watch what oil you put in.good luck

Make absolutey sure the solenoid is engaging. You can hook a light bulb to see if it is engaging above the set point. If it is then the tune is problem. Most likely it seems that the solenoid isn't engaging.

The oil is full. I checked the signal from the ecu inside the car with a test light, that is also good. When you energize the solenoid it clicks. I'm pretty sure thats working correctly.

Stock obd0 pr3. Just one o2 sensor, I have the secondary o2 wire tagged onto the main sensor. I know thats not the best way but I only have a hole for one sensor.
Anybody using this cam setup? ITR intake b16 exhaust, possble problems? Also I have ITR intake mani, GSR t/b. Using stock LS exhaust manifold could this be part of the problem? The rest of the exhaust is 2.5in pipe.
Any more help is appreciated, I am planning on selling this car soon and want to get it running right.

i have the same setup in my 1990 integra as far the cams go(it makes nice power). and the problem with the vtec not making power should be fixed by installing another o2 sensor. that is why you are bogging. if you dont want to do that, there are several programs like uberdata and ghettodyne that can be programmed in your ecu to only run 1 o2 sensor. i think that is your problem. your ecu is ******* up your timing and is giving your engine an ***-load of fuel and causing it to run like ****.

I'm having a problem with Vtec as well, can you explain to me msmotorsports how to test the solenoid with a light?

Thank You!

try to put a timing light on it and move the dizzy further back to the firewall then check the lines on the crank pulley

I went to the junkyard this weekend and got all the obd1 plugs I need to convert. I hope maybe this will work.
