Default VSS...& Code 17

OK...well I am getting code 17...VSS ****-up. It just started. i would notcie about 1 week before it threw the code that the speedo would jump once ina while then it became more frequent. Now the speedo is dead. I replaced the ECM and that is not the problem. I replaced the VSS and that is not the problem. The cluster works fine. The tach works too. Wuold the tach not work if it was a mechanical rpoblem? I am thinking that it is electrical somewhere. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Suggest helms and trouble shooting steps involved with the VSS. You may have gotten a bad VSS.

You have a fuse blown under the dash...most likely from your secondary O2 sensor wires shorting out. Check under the dash for the fuse that's also the alternator/charging indicator light...can't remember what else it is, but that's the fuse that was blown on my car.

When that fuse blew (2ndary O2) on my car it wouldn't run... on the same circuit as the PGM-FI Main relay I believe... but that is on a 3g teg. If it started acting up and then finally quit I would take a look at the plug + wiring ON the VSS since you already replaced the VSS.

I did I replaced it with a clean *** one. It satrted to work again today. then I hit some bumps and it went wacko. i am thinking it is the wires. You know how their a pain in the ***....to always pull the plug by the wires. I am gonna cut it and solder on a new connection. Thanks

I had the same problem. Especially when it was damp out. Most likely the plug on the harness.

Clean it off once in a while..

It was the wires. The middle one got pulled out so the connector wasnt touching the pin. I have an extr harness that i am using for plugs so I sniped and soldered it...Works perfect now.

who is your tranny daddy?

Only reason I know, I dropped a tranny once without unhooking the VSS connnector. I ripped the pins out of the plug. Did a splice job, all has been fine for 2-3 years now.

you guys may have saved my ****. have been having the psycho-speedo-needle problem for about 2 weeks now, and got my first CEL tonight. when i pulled the sensor today, the connector was crudded up with blue crap, figuring coolant spilled during engine r/r. i will mess with the harness/wires/connectors more next time i can get to it and see if that doesn't fix it.

how were you able to get in there and solder ****? barely any slack on the ecu side of the harness, unless there's more from underneath. hmm.

glad i used the search.

I used "posi-locks" because I could not get in there with a iron. Wiring harness will be fixed right when/IF I pull the motor.
