Default VAFC question(s)

I have a JDM H22 with P13. I'm trying to use the VAFC to drop the VTEC engagement some. I've set V/T Cont as the following:

L - H: 4800
H - L: 4600

But when I actually drive, I don't feel a kick until 5200rpms. I have monitored both VTI and VTO. One turns on when it reaches my VAFC setting is reached but no kick. The other turns on when it hits around 5200 (hard to stare at it while I'm accelerating!) and I feel a kick.

Isn't this wrong/incorrect/backwards? Shouldn't it kick in at the rpm I set it at with my V/T Cont setting (4800rpm)?

Are you comparing when it kicks in to stock tach, or VAFC tach?

I think you're problem might be that you set your H/L VTEC points too close together. As a result the VAFC is defaulting to a 5,100 engagement from L-H. Try separating the points by 500 rpm and see what happens.

Anyone know why VTEC would feel like it's not engaging according to the setting on the VAFC (almost feels like it's engaging like stock).

What's the best setting for V/T Unmtch? Anyone think that because it's set to 0 that it's not getting enough fuel to let it really fully engage (like not have full power)?

You should be tuning your VAFC on a dyno with a wideband O2 sensor to realize the benefits - it's not really designed as a plug and play. Did you try spreading the engagement points as suggested?

Yeah, same thing. I made it 4300 and 4800.

I plan on going to the dyno. I'm just wondering if I'm understanding how this thing operates correctly. Apparently not...

In the inspiring words I've come to love... RTFM

Haha! It's a very capable tuning tool for your car but it is also incredibly more complicated to work than a Fields controller for example. Good luck
