Default Using starter to remove harmonic ballencer bolt.

What do you think of this method? If you don't know what I'm talking about u can find like 5 videos on YouTube.

Basicly I have tried 2 diffrent impact wrenches. 1 was a Matco 1/2 inch and the other is one I just picked up at lowes for 180$ that says it does 600ft/lbs but both failed. So I'm thinking this might be my best bet but I don't know how safe it is or what dammaged I might cause

would not advise this method..just use a little heat on the head of the bolt and an impact gun..if u don't have the gun..just heat it till its like redish hot and some good muscle with a johnson bar

I haven't seen the vids and correct me if I'm wrong, but since the balancer spins counterclockwise when viewed from the driver's wheel well, if you attach a wrench to it and keep the wrench from moving then you're tightening the bolt.

IMHO the best way to get the bolt off is to use a balancer holder tool and a 3ft breaker bar. Always cracks it loose. How you keep the crank from turning is important when taking that bolt off. Some methods people use to steady the crank absorb the force put into turning the bolt. Aside from the balancer holder tool, the only other way I'd reccomend to hold the crank is to wedge a very big screwdriver in the flywheel teeth and tranny housing via the inspection cover. That way requires an extra person, of course.

Heat can help as Rogue said but if you have the type of balancer that has rubber on it, do not use any heat.
