Default Using Motor Oil for Tranny?

Hey someone just told me that they are using 10w 30 motor oil in their tranny. Is this alright to do? Some say yes, some say no. Does anybody else know? This is a really interesting topic.

Ive been using that for about a month now on my transmision cuz i forgot when I was doing my clutch that I would need transmission fluid. So all that was available at the time was motor oil. I did notice that the transmission was a little noiser with the motor oil. Could be my imagination though. This reminds me I need to go get some transmission fluid.

When I did my friends clutch on his CRX, it stated to refill with 10w-30 motor oil. Some trannies and gear boxes require something thicker, however I would stick with the motor oil unless it says differently. OBTW, auto's are different than manuals in their requirement.
