give it a lil while, it'll take about 1000 mi. or so before you start to feel a good difference. same way for mine. but once it starts working, damn! grinds b gon

so true i did a clutch n flyweel, I had the motor out of the car for about a week with no fluid in it, my y1 used to grind 3rd anywhere anytime over 2500rpms
YES I KNOW FLUID CANNOT FIX A BROKEN SYNCRO... but it can definitley help it... lol
anyway a few days after putting it all back together I was grinding like no bodys business... week later, now i can hit 8k rpm shifts with no grind.. i can daily drive it shifting around 3-7 no grinds, no more double clutching

yea i use the new royal purple syncro max. its good ****. befor that i used penzoil syncromesh it was excelent as well, formulated to match GM syncromest but its only 4$ a quart.
went into Honda and asked for the honda MTF stuff. And buddy tells me that acura makes a different blend and if i get honda stuff it wont work that great in my b18c1 tranny.
I gave him a Uhhh okay i know your wrong kinda speach and walked out. i was 100% sure that it was the same stuff but does acura make a different mixture?

I switched to this when the time came to change out the Honda MTF, shifting was smoother and not as notchy. Noticed a difference imidiatly. I definatly liked the change in the way the car shifted. But why would it change the way it shifts i mean Honda MTF is a big bandwagon fluid on this board, how could something be better than that?
my vote royal purple

you know whats funny though? royal purple does not reccomend synchromax for honda transmissions.

I wonder why they don't, it works great. Same goes for my Sti, subaru doesn't recomend using sythetic gear oil in the trans (6mt). They say it is too slick and will cause the syncros to actually be too slick to work right. If anyone knows an sti the shifting isn't smooth like a honda so it doesn't make sence that they say not to use something that would actually help that. But people have used it with no problems and better shifting. So who really knows what will and won't work? I mean if Royal purple doesn't recomend using it in the honda transmission and i use it and it works fine and makes shifting better than who is wrong?
I wouldn't go by the site, it says on that link it is not recomended for honda trans and they recomend SAE 10W30 or racing 21. Correct me if I am wrong but they are both motor oils..... but at the same time look at what they say about the synchromax..."Synchromax® is recommended for manual transmissions that specify an automatic transmission fluid or motor oil. " Which end of the double edged sword do you want to be stabbed with?
It worked great for me and thats all I know.

no reason in the world not to use syncromesh... my ONLY CONCERN IS...
long term 20k mile effects... anyone have information on this? i've ran it for about 2500 miles in my y1.... slick as **** with minimal grind
i ran the honda mtf, it 'felt good' but wasnt curing the syncro problem..
but im always open for sugguestions...

Here is an interesting read on the Synchromesh.
I'm sure some people have read this:
http://www.stealth316.com/2-pe...h.htm
Apparently,
1] It IS safe for synchros, and has low oxidation characteristics.
2] The GM stuff is actually made by pennzoil anyhow, so it doesn't matter which one you get.

Redline is garbage, @ my Honda dealer that is the first thing we ask if you put in when a grind occurs, if so we drain it and usually solves the problem. Honda MTF is great stuff but if you are starting to grind with HMTF put in GM syncromesh only problem is typically you cannot switch back otherwise your trans will grind pretty bad. I personally run 2.25 quarts of HMTF and fill the rest with Honda ATF, if has a lot of cleaning agents in it and solved my notchy shifts after 2k and then a drain and fill.
Honestly I would like to know who started the idea of using a friction modified fluid in a manual trans?
The reason gm offers a friction modifier is because gm also uses syncromesh in their transfer cases for 4x4 trucks that not only use syncros to engage 4wd but also have clutch plates. Also gm uses the friction mosifier in rear ends that have clutch type lsd's.
Friction modifier is for clutch plates, there is no need for it in a honda trans.
Gm does not use friction modifiers in their fwd manuals.
The only place i can see it used is if you are running a clutch type lsd like a kaaz, although I don't know if syncromesh will work in that case, I assume it will but i wouldn't know for shure.

there was a noticeable difference between using the friction modified synchro. against the regular one.
no Internet hearsay here...
