Default Transmission: difficult to shift into 3rd

99 Civic Si with ITR engine. Rebuilt B16 tranny with JDM FD and LSD.

On Thursday morning I had difficulty shifting smoothly into 3rd, 4th and 5th. I drained and refilled today with Honda MTF. Now it seems more like normal when I run up from 1st to 5th. Test drive was 10-15 minutes long. However, there is quite a bit of resistance when attempting to shift into 3rd from neutral, or downshifting from 4th to 3rd. Enough resistance that it takes 2 attempts to shift into 3rd.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'm having the same problem both when I go into third and when I want to put it in reverse. Mine isn't so bad though, still I'd like to know why it's so difficult. If I find something out I'll post.

your 3-4 synchros are wearing out, they're loosing their ability to bring the mainshaft gears to the correct speed.

The sooner you replace them, the less parts you will need to replace

Shifting into 3rd from neutral should not be the easiest thing to do. You need to double clutch in order for this to usually work....err, at least for the past 60,000 miles, that's what i've had to do.

But yes, this is a syncro issue if you're having trouble under normal RPM's.

FYI, reverse doesnt have a syncro. That's why it grinds. It's even in the users manual...geeze.

I'm aware of that, but I believe the manual doesn't talk about not being able to put it into gear. Last time I checked theres a big difference between that and a little grind...

No there's not. Both mean that the synchro isn't doing it's job like it's supposed to.
