Default Trans rebuild question...

i'm rebuilding a Y-21 (6g civic si/B16) trans. as far as i understand, the only difference between this transmssion and the late model integra trans is the gear ratios. my question is the following: can i use the late model integra helms manual to rebuild my transmission, or are there clearances or tolerances that differ?

PLEASE do not use a different manual...with different gears comes a different set up, even if it is just a hair off...you will save yourself a world of trouble by getting the right book. also, if you have never done this before, follow that book STEP BY STEP. most errors are made when carelessly following the directions. just think of the old saying: if you don't have time to do it right the first time, when are you going to do it over?

also make sure that you have and know how to use the proper tools (i.e. feeler gauges, snap ring pliers). i don't mean to be insulting, especially if you've done this before, but i'm just trying to save you the trouble if you haven't.

the number on the trans is Y21-1036144. this is supposed to be a B16 trans. i have read that some earlier B16 transmissions (cable maybe?) came with different gear ratios, i believe it was fifth gear. should i worry about this? the transmission that i have is hydrolic. are all Y-21 hydro transmissions the same?

also, i've looked at an integra helms and i remember seeing that it covered all three integra transmissions (ls/gsr/type r). i have been told that the type R and civic Si transmissions are essentially the same (gear ratios), the only difference being the differential.

i guess my question now is which helms to use? 99-00 civic si?

many thanks for the responses.

what kind of car did it come from?

also what you are thinking of earlier b16 tranny's is YS1 not Y21

and yes all hydro y21 tranny's are the same, just make sure you know what car it came out of call honda give them the number they should be able to tell you

True, but also note how the everything comes apart and goes back together. When reassembling my transmission, I put a spring washer in the direction the Helm showed (not the direction I took it apart in). Well, the washer self destructed also taking out my 5th gear and synchro... Save yourself!!!!

i talked to honda and they said it *may* have come from a del sol vtec. is the transmission from the delsol vtec the same one that's in the 6g civic si?
