The longer gearing parts would be cheaper than buying a LS tranny, however what parts do you intend on purchasing? Just the final drive/differential? The individual gears? Note that changing the final drive sometimes requires changing the countershaft. If you plan on changing basically everything in the case, then it would obviously be cheaper to get the LS tranny. If you plan on putting a shorter FD gear on it, then it wouldn't be that much.
LS transmissions are mostly less than $350. Once you modify your B16 for longer gears, it won't be worth much in the future. Many people like B16's because of their short gearing, their 4.400 final drive, and the ease of bolting in an OEM Honda LSD.
The hydro LS tranny is a Y80 or S80.

im going turbo soon. some guy i know wants to trade my b16 hydro, for ls hydro. i have a couple synchros that are going bad, but i still think i am getting the shorter end of the stick. from what i have been reding, ill have to change all of the inards of the tranny anyways, lowering its overall value. ill probrobly keep my b16 tranny and find a good price for an ls hydro.
thanks for your input...
