I bet it would work. My friend had a turbo b16 ef hatch and I am pretty sure that is what he did with his trans since his stock b16 cable trans had the infamous 3rd
gear grind. I think this is what he did because he pointed out the same thing you did- about how cheap they are. This was years ago though, so there is a chance I am wrong.

Re: (coconutsoldier)
cause I can get a ls tranny for a $100 but its got a 3rd rear grind and my b16 gears are all fine, but I dont want to pull my tranny out and find out that it wont work, cause it takes a gd amount of time and effort to take tranny out and switch gears, especially if it doesnt work

if i did a b18 or b16 swap could i still keep my d16y8 tranny on it? </TD></TR></TABLE>
Absolutely not.
B motors are B series, D motors are D series.
B16/7,8, etc are B series. D15/6 are D series.

As long as the 2 transmissions are cable youll be fine to switch gears, diff. and final drives with no prob. As for the clutch its the same thing, Cable clutch for cable trans, hydro clutch for hydro trans.
