timming belt and water pump
ok well how do i tell if my water pump needs to be replaced? and why should i replace it...i ahve abotu 135,000kms (85,000 miles) or so on my car 95....
The car being so old, (not really but yes) wouldn't you feel more comfortable replacing the water pump then to worry and wonder when it is going to fail on you?
Cheap insurance IMO.

I would just do it while you have everything pulled apart... It's a lot easier to do one time then twice. To really know if it is bad too besides having play in the pulley look on the bottom side of it as if it were mounted on the motor still. Underneath the pulley you will see a little hole about 2mm in diameter. If you can see any coolant dripping from that hole replace it indefinately. Have fun
248,000 and it still runs great. I'm very hard on it - and it never lets me down. Although, I do have a CV joint going out. Not bad for the original CV joints. Original clutch was replaced at 212,000. What an incredible car.
There's a small bleeder hole in the back (firewall) side of the water pump. When shaft gets some play, the coolant will be sipping out through that hole. Mine was sipping a little until one day the pump simply gone bad. Don't wait for that day to come!
