I just hit 105k miles on my car and am about to change out the timing belt for the first time. I was also gonna replace the water pump until I checked how much a new one cost. It was $100 bux, wow!

Is it really necessary to replace the water pump also¿ Thoughts¿

i just did the water pump on my car.. its 1997 with over 200,000 miles on it. the water pump i took off was the original one from the factory... it really looked fine when i took it off but it was replaced anyway... along with a few other goodies, timing belt, ect.
unless its leaking or the bearing is going i wouldent touch it

and if u are going to replace the water pump be sure to get new bolts.. the old ones have a bad habit of just busting the head off, and then it gets frustrating

$100 is a good price for an OEM pump. Or are you complaining? First find a sealed bearing that large that will run fine for a hundred thousand miles. Then try casting your own aluminum. Then refine that process to $50. Automotive parts aren't legos.

If you are going to do the belt, its a good idea to do the pump while you're at it. Nothing sucks more than an overheated car. Lack of maintenance is also the #1 killer of honda motors. All the engineering in the world can't compete with over-used fluids that will destroy metal like flesh-eating bacteria. If nothing else, get a new gasket for $3, then take it off and inspect. They will usually find the 150k mark w/o complaint.
