Default timing too advaced, high idle

so i got a 91 hatch with a ls in it, converted to obd1.

it use to idle just fine then it started to idle high and surge. i was throwing a code 8 but after changing distributors i still get that high and surging idle. when i was changing the dist. i tried moving the dist. back and forth to see how that would adjust my idle. to my surprise the idle dropped to 800 and it stopped surging when i retarded the dist, and not just within the dist adjustment slot but i had retard it till that top arm was about an inch away. oh i also checked my timing belt thinking i jumped a tooth but it was fine.

i got it to idle normal by losing my throttle stop screw thingy, by also retarding the dist within the dist adjustment slot all the way, and also with uberdata by retarding the ignition timing down from the basmap 16.5 down to 14. now it idles at 800 but if i put the dist back to stock it will idle at 1200 and then if i change the uberdata map back to 16 it will go higher to 1500

why is my timing so advanced??
