Default timing mark continuously advancing

So I just got my GS-R motor together last night, and when I went to set the timing, I noticed something really strange. When I put the timing light on it, I couldn't get the marks to stay consistant. Yes I had jumped out the service check connector. The gun was set at 0 degrees, but looking at the crank, the mark seemed to be moving in a complete circle. The only way I could keep it in one spot was to consistantly advance the timing **** on the gun. But then I run out of **** so it just keeps moving. Wierd. Let me know if any of you have any ideas.

is your inducitve pickup working correctly on the cyl1 the one on the timing belt side.

i think your pickup on the gun is causing this.

Actually, it was none of the above. The Crank pulley bolt and keyway somehow came out and the pulley wasn't spinning as fast as the crank.

ooops.

no damage. I had just got it started for the first time and it had only ran for about 2 minutes when I tried to set the timing. This is possibly the dumbest thread I've ever started. heh.

Glad to hear nothing was damaged.

And there have been much much worse threads than this here on H-T!
