timing on LS/VTEC
B16A2 head, B18B1 block
problem: TDC marks dont want to line up correctly...also, back cover on B16 head doesnt sit right against the block, thus making the t-belt rub on it.
any ideas on whats going on and what to do?
TIA

you have to notch the the cover that mounts to the head down where it sits on the block. the block keeps it from sitting flat.as for marks they should line unless you have cut the head alot.
im using a GS-R t-belt, the head has not been milled at all, the block had .001 taken off. everytime i try to put the belt on and turn it to make sure it seats and set the tention, ill turn it again and the cams are off by half of a tooth.

im following the Helms manual, but everytime i tighten everything down and spin it a few times, go back to TDC, and the cam gears arent lined up anymore
its really irking me

sounds like its skipping a tooth or more when you crank it over. theres 2 ways i use to tension the belt
1) line everythign up to TDC, loosen tensioner, spin the crank so it goes 3-4 teeth on the pulley and then tighten tensioner, spin crank a few tiems to check the tension and timing marks
and if it isnt tensioned enough
2) bust a coat hanger and slide it under the tensioner spring and pull it up giving it some extra tension.

because of the extra slack when you are putting the T-belt over the cam gears, you could be putting the belt on wrong initially. you could be moving one of the cam gears too far forward or backward when you put the belt on.
putting the belt on like this is easier than you think. make sure you have the cam gears lined up exactly.
