Timing Belt problem!!! please help!
Well today we replaced all the belt and also the timing belt and tensioner. Well, after we put it at TDC and put the belt back on, it was loose. THere is about an ince or slack on the side towards the front of the car. We tried everything. Last resort.. take it all off and mess with the tensioner because it doesnt seem to be doing its job. But its brand new. What could be causing this?
At times when roting the crank pulley, the teeth on the cam gears could actuall jump a tooth.

yes it IS the right belt. At times during the roatation of the crank, it will get snug but then turn again and its loose.

I just did my timming belt recently on my si also.....its simple on how to tighten it.
1- Line up the cam gears and crank to the TDC marks, the cam gears for piston number 1
2- Put the belt on
3- Once the belt is on, the tensioner should be slightly lose.
4- Now rotate the timing belt 3 cam sprocket teeth counter clockwise.
5- The belt should tighten up and now you can tighten down the tensioner bolt and make sure you guys use a torque wrench to torque that bolt down to spec. I believe the helms calls for 40 ft/lbs of tq.
6- It should be good now, remember there will be some play in the belt, about 1 inch of deflection on the long side of the belt.
7- Reassmble and enjoy 3rd gear vtec.

well, if too loose it could come loose; wich would be no good.
if too tight, the bolt could break when torqued
