Default Timing

I recently changed a head gasket in a 93 civic ex. I put everything back to tdc put the belt on, centered the distributor and fired her up. I landed up moving the belt 3 teeth on the cam gear to get it to run well enough to drive. I got rid of the misses by adjusting the distributor. It now idles almost perfect, and top end is great. But someone can probably out walk my car off the line. Its just a terd, after it hits like 3,000 rpms it takes off. Any suggestions? Only thing I can think of its advancing the timing by moving the belt 1 tooth, and trying to make up for the misses with the distributor.
