thinking about how to remove my engine...whaddaya think?
Im going to rebuild my motor, from top to bottom so i thinking for taking out the engine i wouldn't need an engine lift thing. I would take the head off, take oil pan off, take off the girdle, then take off the crank. and unbolt the bare block from the tranny, would this been difficult and more trouble than its worth or should i go with it?
that route is perfectly fine, since you're going to disassemble the entire motor any how. However, pulling it out all at once as a long block is much easier and less time consuming.

pulling it out all at once as a long block is much easieri would think as a whole with the tranny, etc. would be much easier than trying to just pulling it out as a long block and leaving the tranny in there; it'll be easier for reassembly also
i just see it as easier with the tranny in there since you're not doing any work on the tranny. It will also save some room if you're tight on space. Different people have different opinions, although i understand where you're comming from.

u cant take the crank out of the car without taking out the transmission, the crank is attached to the flywheel/clutch which is connected to the trans
i dont know how much of a build you are going to do
but i would definatley remove the engine.
if you have to drop the crank, you will have to reomve the transmission clutch and flywheel.

The easiest way I've found is to remove the head w/ IM still attached and drop the engine & tranny DOWN and out the passenger side. Course you have to lift the front of the car a decent bit and if you have head studs remove them, but this is my preferred method nowadays. I put 2 layers of plastic matting under the car so it slides on the top layer w/o scratching the oil pan(if it's still on). Works like a charm and you don't need a lift or chains or cables...etc. Just a couple floor jacks & stands.
In my experiences justing lifting the engine out as a longblock is much easier than doing what you had described. You will run into alot headaches when doing this, trust me i tried this when i had to pull the engine out of my 240 for the second time because i did not have a cherry picker and it was a bitch.
