Default temp gauge not working???

My stock temperature gauge haven't worked since I had my head ported/polished. It just stays down, but once in awhile when on a long drive or so, it'll move up a tad bit and go back down. What should I check first?

Check the ECT gauge sending unit. It sits right below the distributor and a little towards the middle of the head.

I don't see how it could have come unhooked b/c it doesn't have a disconnectable connector to/from the engine wiring harness. And I seriously doubt that it was left unthreaded into the head....you'd be leaking coolant all over the place.

The only thing I can think of is that there's an opening in the circuit.

The ECU probably won't pick up on a missing ECT gauge sending unit and throw a CEL code b/c it's not an essential engine management parameter.....the ECT sensor (not the ECT gauge sending unit) handles coolant temperature inputs.
