Default gauge calibration

My stock temp gauge still doesnt work!!!! When I turn on the car when its cold it slowly goes up all the way as far as the needle can go within about 30 sec. If the engine is already warm and i turn on the car the needle goes up instantly. If i unplug the gauge wire from the sender on the head, it does not move at all. So I can only assume it has become miscalibrated out of nowhere without me ever touching it???? How do i recalibrate the gauge? I already bought a replacement but it did the same thing.

there is no calibration on stock coolant temp gauge. check to see if the wiring from the coolant temp sensor is corroded or oil soaked. maybe the coolant temp sensor is defective
