Default Technical question....d series cam selection help!

For all you d-series junkies who know their stuff - I need help figuring out what cam would be ideal to maximize my setup. Here is a low-down of my setup -
Top end:
Ported and polished z6 head with a .020 mill
Crower valve springs
Skunk2 Ti retainers
Cam gear TBA

Bottom end:
y8 block
y8 rods
a6 pistons

Here is a link with lots of aftermarket cam specs:
http://www.hadamotorsport.com/....html

Now which cam would bring out the best of my setup? Or should I get a cam custom ground? This is a daily driven vehicle, so it has to be driveable and fairly reliable! Thanks for the help!!

talk to rocket..he makes good cams for the D16 motor and would be able to recommend a good cam for your setup.

I talked to him already. he suggested a cam with around a 274 duration, but he didnt mention anything about lift or lobe seperation.

EDIT: I guess I will be a little more specific - I want to have decent low-end power without sacrificing high-end performance. I was looking at the Zex cam, but is there something that would be more suited to my setup?

For all motor I like 108 lobe separation with the intake at 104-106 centerline.

For peak lift 10.5 - 11.2 is fine is good.

Stock Z6/Y8 springs are plenty for your app.

Becareful with the A6 piston as the Z6/Y8 head has the exhaust valves further to accomodate the vtec mechanism.

I hope it will work okay....the a1 pistons are sometimes used in these setups and they have big domes compared to the a6. You think I should have it clayed first?

Last thing - Do you have a cam available that you could suggest for my setup?

The s22 should work well for you.

I was checking that one out, but it states that it is a strong FI cam. Im pretty sure that FI and N/A setups require a different duration, lift, lobe seperation. Would you maybe tell me about the s22?

For NA I would modify the lobe centers for you at 108 instead of 114 for the FI version.

Nope, I heard the lobes are too big and will hit the oil resevoir in the head. I haven't confirmed this.

If anybody has first had experience with this install, please share.

I recently acquired this cam for my D-project but haven't completed it just yet. Should be running soon.

A6 block, P29 pistons w/stock Z6 head setup.

yeah put the cam in the head with out putting the cam caps on and just rotate the cam to make sure you have clearance.

ok- this is probably a stupid assumption, but shouldnt the skunk2 cam not hit anything in your head(considering it took long enough to become available). i guess im just edgy because i got one comin in the mail and i spent a good amount of cash on it and i dont wanna run into problems with a stage 1 cam...keep us posted on the install and any thoughts when u get it runnin katman.

I'm assuming the same thing too....
I mean, they should have R&D'd their product, which I'm hoping they did...lol.

I'll keep ya posted.

They do but I heard the R&D is done by different people than the production.
