Default TDC On Compression Stroke - DOHC

How do you make sure it is TDC on the compression stroke? I have the head off and I want to make sure it is on the compression stroke.

the piston is At TDC 2 times during the 4 strokes, its the cam's position that determine compression stroke or exhaust stroke..

This is correct. The way to tell is if the rotor is pointing to the #1 post on the cap.

If it is firing it is at TDC, right?

So basicly what you are saying is, that as long as I have the crank alligned properly, it will be at tdc when I set cams and dizzy to TDC??

So are you saying that currently your cylinder head is off and you are wondering how to put it on TDC? Any time the piston is at the top of it's travel with the head off is TDC.

If the head is on and you have the valve cover off, make sure both cam lobes are pointing away from the rockers and that both valves are closed. If they are even slightly open, you're not on TDC on the compression stroke. An easy way to check if the valves are in fact closed is to check the clearance between the rocker and the cam. You don't have to check the exact clearance, just as long as there is some the valve is closed. You can just grab the rocker and move it and you can tell by feel usually. If you are on TDC on the intake/exhaust overlap there will be no clearance. You must have clearance on both the intake and the exhaust lobes.
