Does he get any overheating while cruising (Not in traffic, but doing like 55+ constant)? That is a sign of it, as the water pump cannot keep up with the water flowing through it, and is depriving the engine of cooler water faster. If it's overheating when in traffic, check the radiator fill, and the thermostat.
