stock D15B VTEC ????
There's an add on ebay for a "jdm" engine that the seller claims is a 1.5l VTEC with a 160hp rating. Is he for real???? I emailed him to ask him the engine code and he replied D15B. It has VTEC printed on the valve cover. Is this a Japan only model? Did he just put a VTEC valve cover on a D15? Or are these motors common and I'm just Ignorant? I'm thinking of getting it for my '91 Civic STD.
Everything you want to know about the JDM D15B VTEC:

Never heard of Honda making a SOHC motor that put out 160hp stock. Could be a few things, could be a D15 with the D16 VTEC head. Could just be a valve cover swap...

nah dude you're not foolish ......
I have a Civic which originally came with a D15B SOHC VTEC , but i swapped it out for a 1600 VTEC . my car is right hand drive . it was imported directly from Japan . It is a VTi ( EG4 ) Civic hatch rated at 102-110 hp to the Flywheel ( very very sad ) but they are fairly fast for a 1500 cc motor

Thanks for the input. the article explained a little. sounds like it would be about the equivalent of putting a d16z6 head on my d15 in my civic. Does anyone know if the head on the D15B is the same one they use on the z6 or y8 (the one I'm looking at is the black valve cover MPFI model)? What I'm getting at is if i decide to get this motor, am I going to have problems getting parts for it? I like the idea of being able to tell someone "it's just a 1.5". I'd do a mini me, but my bottom end is worn out, so this seems like a pretty good option.
While I'm bugging you guys, how hard do you think it would be to get about 150-160 hp out of the motor N/A and keep it reliable? Do you think a I/H/E, FPR, Adj cam gear and good tuning would get me there?

you can get one shipped from hondamotorsonline for like 2500-2600.
Yeah, the guy on ebay wants $550 + $200s&h for the motor alone, I've decided against it.
Maybee I'll give H.M.O. a call and see if they have any. Or I could just wait for someone local to swap a new engine into his or her 92-95si or 96-00ex and get their d16z6 or y8 dirt cheap

I would be putting the motor into my 91 hatch, so the hydro tranny won't work for me, but could I swap the LSD into a 90-91 Si tranny?
Its unbelievable the prices people charge for engines in the US, over here in ireland breakers yards are literally giving away B16A engines, ($200-$300) plus i was offered a B18C from a 97 JDM SiR integra with wiring for $650!!! the engine was guaranteed for 6 months and had only 32k miles (warranted) on it!!! (But i opted to rebuild my own)
