Spring Compressor Does Not Fit
Today I was trying to replace my struts and it was all going smoothly until we realized that the spring compressor we rented from Pep Boys was too large to fit in between the coils of the springs. We went to autozone, theirs was also very large. Basically I did a search and found one thread about this but, and the only thing i got was that Advanced Auto Parts has a one with a smaller profile but I have never seen one of those around where I live. So any other options? I have Goldline Springs...2.25'' drop
People are going to tell you not to do this, but I will tell you anyway.
Put the strut up to an old tire and use an impact wrench to take off the bolt on the top. I used a spring compressor at first, but then I decided to say **** it cause it was taking too long and gave this a try. Worked perfect, I was kind of freaked out at first but everything went smooth. It hardly even shot off of there.
Be careful... this is just the way I did it, it is in no way the safe way to do it.
I have a 92 prelude BTW.

I didn't use a spring compressor to compress my springs. I did it on one of them and it took too long so I decided to try and remove the spring without using the compressor at all.
I just layed it on the ground and aimed it at a tire.
I used the tire to absorb the kick of the springs tension, which was not as much kick as I had expected. The compressor makes it so you can remove the bolt at the top so the tension of the spring will not cause the strut to go shooting off.
I have been told this is very dangerous, but I did it and it worked fine for me. I recommend you do what ever you feel is safe, this just worked very well for me.

wow, I got hit in the face once with a spring when my compressor broke. Knocked me on my *** instantly. Closed the shop for the rest of the day.
your tire idea sucks IMO

didn't do it with it facing up at my face, had it laying down on its side.
I just let the bolt come up slowly until the end. Barely even shot off.
One of my friends actuallaly tried it out before me on his accord before I did this and it worked fine for him too. He was the one who told me about it. I thought it was going to come shooting off of there, he assured me it wouldn't so he did the first one. Sure enough it didn't.
I'm pretty sure I have even seen this done in a Honda Tuning once before. I'll try to see if I can find the issue so you can look at it and see a picture of how he has it set up.

we brought my friends to a shop. they pieced it all together, with the spring uncompressed. put the top hat on, then put the lift up. lowered the lift onto the tophat, thus compressing the spring. when the strut poked thru the tophat they put a bolt on. viola.
