Speedometer not working??
putting it on the side was a joke. i was talking about tilting it and putting the car resting on the drivers door, straight up and down.
back to topic, anyone know what to do about the speedo

anyone?
anyone?
To answer your actual question, while you had the VSS out, did you notice the small square pin that goes between the VSS and the drive gear? That pin gets lost very easily if you are not watching out for it.
b/w the vss and drive gear there was a copper looking coder pin i believe... is that what you are talking about? i assume i should check that and make sure it is pushed in all the way. could i have possibly missed the fuse? i checked all the underdash fuses.
no pins were bent on the vss side, and i couldnt see any pins on the harness side.
there was a little goo looking stuff between the vss and place where the harness plugs in (where the vss seperates into 2 pieces) so i cleaned that out. maybe i should try taking a hair dryer to it, but it has been 2 weeks and it seems as though it should have dryed out by now. hopefully i can get to it this weekend and let you know whats up.
when i check the voltage, what do i do if the voltages dont turn out correct?

check connector:
black=ground
bl/yell= battery power (ignition on)
orange= 5v (ig on)
When you took out the sensor, did you only take the vss out as a whole or did it come apart?If it came apart maybe you didnt put the drive link in the right position</TD></TR></TABLE>
ok... checked all fuse... they were fine
checked the voltages on the above mentioned pins... this is what i got.
bl/yllow = 12v
orange = 9 v
both were with ignition on.
also checked ground and it was fine. any idea on the voltages/ you said ornage should be 5 but mine measured 9. should it actually be 12 or should it be 5?
i am getting ready to check the vss itself and the clip. also goingto dry it out with a blow dryer.
let me know what you think about the voltages

alright, i took the vss out, and took it apart. i cleaned some gunk out from the connector half and the gear half.
another question that i now have is this:
i noticed that the metal cylinder on the harness side is free to move. i made note of the position, and put the two halves together and turned the gear on the gear side. when i seperated the vss, the cylinder on the harness side was in the same position as it was before i spun the gear. is the cylinder on the harness side supposed to spin with the gear, or does it stay stationary and somehow measure the spinning or the cylinder on the gear side.
please help

Code 17 is VSS. But we already knew it had to do with the VSS. Anyway you can borrow a friend's and see if theirs works on your tranny? Never took the VSS off to change the tranny fluid, so I don't know if any of the pins can come apart or where stuff is supposed to go.
Note to self - continue to use angled funnel when changing tranny fluid.

got it working today. i noticed that the drive gear was not turning the cylinder on the harness side and realized this(above) had to be my problem. i couldn't find the original pin so i mad one out of a speaker/spade connector. occ and west coast choopers better look out... i am the next metal master.
thanks you to everyone that helped. you never realize how cool the speedo is until you go without it for 2-3 weeks
