Slack in shift-linkage/tranny?
hey... ive got a fresh GSR swap in my EG hatch. ive been slowly but surely getting all the little things together and one of the problems that is currently bothering is this slack in my shifter. It basicly is like nuetral in every gear. The shifter can move left and right about 2 inches nomatter were it is. Ive checked out the shift linkage and i cant quite figure out what the problem is (you can see pics of the linkage at my yahoo pic sight http://photos.yahoo.com/strangrwitcandy) the whole thing (linkage and part comming out of tranny) rotates when i have a friend move the shifter around (you can kinda tell in the pics, they are from the shifter being all the way to one side and then the other). Is it possible that the peice comming out of the tranny is the problem? because ive had my friend who did the swap check it out and he cant find anything wrong with the linkage... he says that its like the peice comming out of the tranny is loose. just wondering if this could be the problem, or could it be something else... and how might i go about fixing it (i really dont want to take out the tranny)
why do you have that bolt holding the linkage in . put the original pin in there and it will be way nicer. HTH and you got a bit of an exhaust leak on the exhaust donut.

Every time I read "my linkage is sloppy after engine swap" it ALWAYS ends up there is a bolt replacing the proper roll pin holding the linkage to the tranmission. If you replace the bolt and then it still is sloppy, then ask again. Watch how little the linkage rotates or moves in and out when operating, then hold both ends of the linkage as someone operates the shifter and feel how much play there is with the undersize bolt in place. Those parts are made to have ZERO play when assembled properly. I'm not trying to flame anyone here, but it is a case of assemble it as intended and it will work as intended.
Or, if you insist on using a bolt, go get a proper AN bolt. Better yet, a close tolerance bolt. Or just use the correct Honda roll pin! No kidding about the typical pedestrian hw you find in Home Depot, it's way undersize.
