Default Should I use a block guard?

First off, I just want to say I am new here and so far just by reading over some of the forums, this is one of the most informative sites I have been to on the web. anyway, the question. I'm building a b18a w/ plans of boosting. I have eagle rods and SRP 8.5:1 pistons, should I use a block guard with my setup. I am only planning on trying to get in the upper 200's to lower 300's HP. any info would be great

In my opinion blockguards do more harm than good. There are to many chances for inproper install, cooling issues etc. 600+ whp can be made on stock sleevs w/o a block guard so, that is good enough for me.. Also, this site is very informative and the Search function located in the upper right hand corner of the screen will answer 99% of the questions a new person to the scene like yourself may have. Welcome to HT!

Probably dont need it but i dont think that it hurts much either. If you have it pressed in by a machine shop before all the machining is done it should be A ok.

I seriously doubt there will be any cooling issues, people have discussed it but i have seen too many people (myself included) running them for long periods of time with high rpms, high boost, forged or stock internals and having no problems whatso ever.

Do i know if it actually benefited? Cant say, i got it for cheap insurance to help keep everything stiffer. Thats all. Maybe someone else will discuss their experiences but mine and everyone i know has had good experiences with them.

What do i know though?

like some have said. unless you running 600 whp, don't waist your money.
proper install will give you....piece of mind?...less cash in your wallet?...
inproper install could cost you your engine.

ot: keep in mind, you will find whatever answer you want to find. you could post a topic "is it ok to mix dog-poop in my gas" and sure enough someone will post "yeah, I do it all the time with no problems." Check your sources. Someone who races their car every weekend is probably gonna know a little more about what works and what doesn't then someone who shows their car every weekend. jmo. welcome to ht.
