Long block includes the transmission. Short block is just the engine.

longblock is the whole motor = block and the head, usually no manifolds

shortblock is just the bottom end = no head, but rods, pistons, blah blah

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 90blackcrx &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Long block includes the transmission. Short block is just the engine.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Wrong. Short block is just the bottom end of the engine (the block, pistons, rods, crank, and etc) Long blocks are a short blocks but with the head. Now there are bare and complete long blocks. Bare meaning that it is only block and head with all the internals, but a complete long block is a bare long block but with intake and exhaust manifold.

EDIT: companies range in what is included in the package (like sensors and etc.), so check what is included in the package.
