Default Setting timing?

What is the stock timing for a Type R and how do I set it? I have a timing light and I know you move the distributor back and forth but how do you know how far to go? I see the red and white marks on the pulley but what do they mean? Also, does pulling the distributor towards you retard or advance timing? TIA...

if i am not mistaken, pulling the dist. toward you retards timing...whichever way speeds up the engine slightly, is advancing it. as for the timing marks, the middle white mark between the two red ones indicates stock setting. this is only really useful if you have a stock motor that doesn't req. timing adjustments. if you have aftermarket sheeit then the two red lines outside the white one do mean something...correct me (anyone) if i'm wrong but i think one is 4 degrees advanced and the other is 4 degrees retard depending on which way u rotate the dist. hope that helps.
