Default Rod Bearings Please Help

I am rebuilding my 96 GSR engine and all I need are the rod bearings and main bearings. The crank was spun 10 10 by the machine shop. Acura says I need a color code for the bearings, I just dont know what color I need. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't know what 10 10 means, but you can plastigage (green plastigage from Autozone) with a pair of green or yellow OEM bearings (which are middle of the scale in thickness) and then decide whether you need to go up or down in color.

You can also ask the machine shop what they turned the journals down to when they say 10 10.

you mean the crank journals(crankpin) and main journals was ground .010" under. i don't believe honda makes any oversize bearings. i know they make bearings in different thickness for std. size journals, but not undersized. your gonna have to go with an after-market company like acl, clevite, etc.....

I dont usually say use aftermarket, but there are some guys here who use them with great results. And if the crank was reground to different measurements they probably would be better. They use ACL bearings. Try a search for them, Im sure you'll find something from Mike I think. He has them for sale and swears by them.

Yeah, I bought some ACL berings from earl through another friend on H-T. Unlike stock Honda berings which use a color code stamped on the bottom of the rods, then the code refers to another in the helms. The ACL's are manufactured to fit w/in the max and min tolerances of nearly all Honda motors, unless your motor was made on a Friday at 3:30pm when the tolerances are all off.

Don't forget about thrust washers too, don't want your crank moving around. The GS-R acutally uses the berings made for D16's when it comes to ACL. All mine plasticgauged perfectly. Oh, and ACL berings cost A LOT less than OEM Honda berings. $110 for rod, main, and thrust washers. Honda berings are too expensive to buy to see if they'd fit.

I sell .25 mm oversized ACL bearings which will work with your 10 10 crank. This means rods and mains were ground .010 undersized and you need the .010 (.25mm) oversized bearing. E-mail me for details.
BTW, I just did a rebuild on a JG built motor. I found .25 mm oversized ACL's in it. Shocked me and especially my customer. They did not tell him.

ACL is probably one of the largest bearing producers in the world. They build oem bearings for cars produced in many countries. Their quality is second to none. We are lucky to have this alternative to the stoch Honda bearings.
