The tranny in the ITR is getting pretty scratchy. 1st to 2nd gear at redline with a fast shift is met with a crunch
. I've been suspecting my input shaft bearing of being shot and plan on installing a new one when I pull the engine for a rebuild, but I'm also planning on finding my syncros to be crapped out. Maybe the input shaft bearing is causing these problems as well, but I'm never that lucky
So if I have the time, patience, and a daily driver how hard is it to change syncros, if nessecary. Purchasing the needed tools shouldn't be a problem and I have a Helms manual. Anything to look out for? Would it be better to just pull the tranny and open the case myself and let a shop handle the actual syncro replacement? Any info would be appreciated.

Open it up and do it yourself. You say time isn't an issue so you can afford to take you time and do it right by yourself. Just go through the special tools page in your helm's tranny section to see what you'll need to go out and by. Just take your time and keep track of everything, maybe take pictures during disassembly to help you out.
read the tranny section of the helms manual at least 3 times
