question on stock ITR oil cooler
I purchased an ITR oil cooler setup a while ago, and noticed when installing it that the 1992 & 1994 Helm manuals show some pieces inside the through-bolt (looks to be a pressure bypass valve). This is not shown in the Helm for 98+ Integras.
Should I have received the spring and associated parts? The part #s for the oil cooler bolts differ between the 1992 and 2001 units; maybe this was only used on the OBD-1 model cooler?
If I need them, do they come as part of the oil cooler bolt assembly? The parts site doesn't show anything.
It looks like the bolt by itself would allow quite a bit of oil straight through into the filter.
This is all being installed on a 1991 B18A, if it matters.
Thanks.

Only OBD-1 B18C1 engines and all B18C5's got oil coolers. The only OBD-2 Integra motors that got an oil cooler were the B18C5's.
The B18C5 diagram in teh '98+ Integra Helm manual shows the oil cooler.
Non-oil cooled engines used a short stud for just the oil filter. A longer bolt with a bypass valve is used on oil cooled engines, which is also used to mount the oil filter. The bolt is necessary and specific to the oil cooler...without it, you can't secure it to the block or have anything to thread the oil filter on.
You need #12 as well as the #19 oil cooler o-ring.

I think the real trick tho is how to route the coolant lines.

Don't forget the b17a
Anyway, the Helm for the 1992 & 1994 GSRs both show a spring inside the bolt, but the ITR Helm doesn't show this setup. Just a plain bolt. The person I bought it from tells me that it had no spring when he removed it from the ITR.

Is it possible that there is no valve on the ITR version of the cooler? The bolt has a different part # (and costs less) than the OBD-1 GSR version.

Taken care of. Required some block drilling/tapping and a new water pipe.
