Default Question about intermidiate shaft....

I posted a few days ago becuase of a "clicking" noise that was comming from my car when driving at over 15mph.. well I thought it was motor mount, axles, cv, or even something wrong in the tranny like a bad bearing BUT today I looked underneath the car and found the real culprit.. For some reason on my intermidiate shaft there is this big piece of metal with three holes for bolts I guess that is just hanging from the shaft.. its almost like its a part of the shaft itself but I can't get it out cuz its built into it. The metal itself looks pretty strong maybe even iron! Do all intermidate shafts have this myterious peice of metal?? I dont know what it would be for? anyone have any ideas?

yes that part mounts onto the block and keeps it in place.

Exactly. That is the shaft mount that bolts to the block. Please don't tell me you drove around without that bolted down. Fix it before you destroy your transmission and god knows what else.

I'm telling you yes I have been driving it around with it like that. Why? cuz i'm a dumbass. Actually I just bought the car from this dude who had this problem.. he said it was something in the tranny.. I checked underneath the car the other day and finally found out it was this that was causing the clicking noise. So you are saying if i dont have that on it will ruin the tranny? how so? if thats true it will probably already be messed up since he said it was happening for a while..

naa i wouldnt worry about it
the intermediate shaft dosent have very much room to move and its protected pretty well, i would take the axle and shaft off and look for damage tho.

this is true, but it can move around skrewing up the splines on the transmition side of the shaft. it would be my assumption since your still driving it that it is probably ok, however you need to get this mount connected as soon as possible. Good luck and may the force be with you young jetti.
