Default Programming glitch with ancient CR-V keyless entry

Hi folks,

I recently purchased a new key fob for my 2000 CR-V. Per the programming instructions, I cycled the key and pressed the button 3 times, and heard the locks engage, indicating "programming mode". I then pressed the lock button on the same remote again, which audibly engaged the locks, and on a second remote, which also audibly engaged the locks. Per the procedure, I then turned off the car.The next step was to test the key fobs, but neither of them work. Tried this repeatedly, and also tried pulling battery negative for 30+ minutes to reset the system. No joy yet.

The fact that I hear the lock engage when I press the button on either remote seems to rule out basic battery and radio issues, and before I started trying to add a fob, the original one was working perfectly (a couple of days ago).

Any suggestions?

Thank you!!!

So old folks sometimes take longer to figure out how to remember things, right? This didn't work at all, but the next morning, I happened to try one of the remotes, and it magically worked, as did the other one. Not in any way sure why it took overnight for the programming to "take".
