polishing pistons, prep for install

Is there anything you should do to pistons before install? Some say to sand and sharpen them? Since im gonna reuse my old JE can i clean the tops with some wool?

If they haven't been "softened" then you would wanna lightly sand the top with a medium grit, then to a finer grit till it's silky smooth. Don't take off too much material and DO NOT TOUCh the valve relief.
If it's been softened. Just clean it well. If it has a lot of crap, just dip the tops of the pistons in deisel and clean away.

You can sand them, but for quite the opposite reason. You don't want any sharp edges, sharp edges build up heat quicker and can cause hot spots in the cylinder. Smoothing the piston surface may be nice, but if there JE's then chances are that they were CNC'ed and come with a pretty nice surface.
