how to clean pistons?
ok well ive got these pistons and im pretty certain i need to clean them out before putting rings on them and installing them into the block. now my question is, how do i clean them? what can i use to get into the little grooves that the rings sit in?
I have some old pistons that are out of the block, that I would like to clean up. Is paint thinner and carb cleaner kind of the same thing. They kind of smell the same and they're both very volatile. dont know if I spelled volatile right

WHATEVER YOU DO, don't use a wire brush wheel or rotary power tool to clean the ring grooves. You need a specialty tool for that, it's called a ring groove cleaner. You can use a scraper tool (like a paint scraper tool) to clean the top of the piston. I'd beware of the outer edges of the piston top, because you don't want the edges to get rounded off whatsoever.
