please help, scratchs on my pistons!!
hi, i just took apart my block and i noticed that on one piston there is a scratch on the side wall, near the top, of the piston. the scratch is not really deep but its not one of those surface scratchs either, i was just thinking about taking so 2000 grit sand paper and smooth it out, is that a good idea? or am i gonna just have to get new pistons???
thnx guys
sorry no picture, i tried to take one but my camera is just too crappy

When you say "Sidewall" where exactly are you talking about? On the piston skirt or above the ring lands? On the skirt is no big problem as all that does is keep your piston from "Walking" up and down the cylinder wall. You can sand off the edges with emery cloth and be just fine. Above the compression ring and it may be a little different.
Was there any scoring in the cylinder that the piston came from? And are these scratches on the thrust or non-thrust side of the piston?
Go borrow a friend's camera and take a picture!
