Default pistons and ringlands

So if a ringland goes, can u simply replace the rinland or do you have to replace the entire piston? Also, if you do have to replace the piston, do you have to do anything else to the cylinder walls?

must replace piston. hone cylinder walls for the new rings, and if a bore is necessary, bore, then hone.
