Default Plastic Zip Ties on Steering Rack Boots

Has anyone had long term success with this?

I found it almost impossible to install the OEM Honda metal ties on my Integra.

Inner ties or outer ties? There's a boot band tool you need to purchase to install those metal ties on the inner tie rod boots. The outer ones require just a metal ring which I never use.

zip ties seem to dry out and crack after a while. If you can't get the Honda metal ties on then the next best thing is a high quality stainless hose clamp.

Thanks, guys.

It's the inner ones I had trouble with.

Zip ties are fine to use on the steering rack. In fact, many of the aftermarket boots use zip ties instead of the OEM style metal ties.

The assembly isn't spinning like the axles, not really exposed to huge temperature swings.

I would suggest a wider zip tie to maximize surface area and reduce the chance of it cutting into the boot.

In particular I would say the t-bar clamp for even pressure distribution:

I agree with that. they don't have the holes in the band that tend to chew through the rubber over time as well. Buy 2 good ones one time and they'll outlast the car.
