Default Pinging even with a knock sensor

Hello people,

I have a 97 Integra GSR, stock. I am getting light pinging (tinkling sound, or marbles rattling around in a can) occasionally when I increase the throttle. I am using 91 gas, and also tried some Techron to clean out deposits and stuff. I thought that since I have a knock sensor that the car isn't supposed to ping. I think over time it is slowly getting worse, i.e. initially it would only do it for a second or so, but now it can last for several seconds. Any suggestions? Thanks

are you sure your ping? The way you described it it could be the exhaust heat shield or something like that. That is what is rattling on my car, but it only did it at sertain rpm's now it does it all the time. If your sure it is ping you can retard or advance timming that should fix the problem.

Nope, the Honda KS is not used to prevent your engine from pinging/detonation when under load. It performs no function that protects your engine whatsoever, as a matter of fact. It is an *emissions* sensor to trim ignition timing at low load highway cruise, to reduce NOx gas production.
