my research has led me to believe that the GSR computer, or any computer that reads a knock sensor for that matter will slightly retard timing in what appers to be an effort to keep the motor safe from possible detonation.
but Im not completely sure

If so, you might feel a slight difference or you just might not. In my case I felt a slight loss of power on top end and it started wasting more gas, but Im not sure if this was directly related to the knock sensor being broken

I would suggest you get it fixed, it is there for a reason...

the knock sensor is more a safe guard against detonation. I'm surprised that you aren't throwing a check engine light. I would get a new one. Better safe than out of a motor
