my 91 civic has a lot of pinging when the revs get up a little bit. it happens more when the engine gets hot. i'm being told i have no EGR on this engine, so how exactly does it replace the cooling effect of the egr!?!

i ran NGK g-power spark plugs for about a month and other than being worn down a bit they looked in perfect condition when i took them out.

what's the deal?@

you're on the right track, but pinging as in pinging.

 

well, i can think of two things right away, the plugs might be too hot or the timing is off, check that first, but it sounds like it has to do with timing

 

yeppers, it's called detonation...Us nitrous folks are familiar with it it's a timing issue, and sometimes shi**y gas...

 

the timing is fine and i already talked about the plugs. right now it has the stock-spec NGK's in there.

 

i'm not familiar with engines that doesn't have EGR so, i'm sorry

 

how does this pinging noise sound like?

 

u do know that all honda motors have a ticking noise from the valves, right......
no matter its either low octane fuel or the timing is off like everyone else is saying

Actually, the ticking are your injectors...not your valves (provided the valves are adjusted properly).
