Default Overheating problem on race track only.

My Crx with B16a has been overheating on the race track lately. It is annoying not to be able to do a full 20 min. at a Time Attack event. The temp. fluctuates when I take a turn. Furthermore, my heater doesn't work either so I can't put the heat on when the car overheats. We checked the cables of the climate control and its hooked up. Normal driving, the temp. is at the normal position. I tried the water wetter and de-ionized water mix in my coolant but no result. Fan goes on and all hoses get "hot".

Thermostat problem? Electrical problem?

well not sure wat the problem is but you should be able to eleminate bad thermostat because if it opens while normal drivin then it should def be opening when racing.. could be electrical with fan maybe.. not sure.. thats kinda wierd problem..

Alright, this time I purged the system again by unscrewing a screw on the connector between the head and the top hose. I did still have air in the coolant system!

However, still no heat coming from the air vent. I haven't tested the on the race track for overheating yet.

The cooling system should work regardless of whether or not you are using the heater. and the tem shouldn't fluctuate when you are in a turn.

Maybe you still have a bunch of air in your system.

Have you done a Pressure test. Make sure your system is capable of building an maintaining pressure... it could be that you have bad radiator cap too.

And how do you test this pressure. How would I know if my cap is bad?

if you have a air pocket on the top side of the thermostat then it wont open..
if thats all it is.. then take a small drill bit and drill the outter part of it at 12 oclock on it....
this trick is used all the time on muscle cars.. when i put my chevelle together i had the same problem and this is how we fixed it... it allows the air pocket to escape... you wont wreck the thermostat either!!

usually the thermostats have that built into them...at least the OEM ones do.

as for the pressure testing..
there is a device that does this.

you might be able to rent one from an auto-parts store... or at least buy one.
or take it to a shop and have them perform a cooling system diagnostic.... which could be $40-$90.

OKay, find the problem! A plastic bracket broke on my climate control. So, because the temp. was not on hot, I was not able to do a proper bleed of my coolant system where air bubbles were still present. This explains why the car was overheating on the race track.:D

1) Broken mechanism bracket (climate control). Epoxy time!

Bad:

Good:

2) This lever was not moving due to the broken bracket which give me no heat.
