Default Old gas, need to syphon.

I just had an idea and was wondering if it would work. My car's been sitting for around 8 months and I need to syphon the gas. Could I just run the end of the fuel line into the gas can and turn the key, letting the fuel pump prime and pump all the gas out itself? My engine isn't in yet so I figured this might be easier at this point. I know it would be almost as easy to syphon it from the fill, but I'm just curious.

As long as you aren't stirring up 8-month-old crud & plugging up your pickup strainer, then yes. It sounds pretty easy to take the fuel line off from the filter & stick it into a gas can... If you run the fuel pump by jumpering something with a screwdriver, just don't set the gas can on fire.

why don't you drain the tank with the drain plug?

I just used the drain bolt. The car was sitting for over a year and it was 89 oct. anyway. New engine requires 93+.
